What if?

I have wondered why the shops, motel and hotels of our township of Tallangatta were not built along the lake edge. How much more delightful if you were staying at the motel to wake up to the views of the lake that we get to enjoy at Red Gum Bed and Breakfast each morning. Outside dining with our valley and water views. A missed opportunity 60 years old. The town planner of the 1950’s at least planned the town centre around a generous park and had the foresight to plant the trees that create a beautiful shady rest and eating area.

Coming up is the now annual ‘Whistle Stop High Tea’ bike ride on the High Country Rail Trail from Huon Reserve to Tallangatta and back again, held this year on SATURDAY 16th MAY. There are three stops on the ride: first fruit at Sandy Creek bridge; then hot dainties at Tallangatta; to finish on the return, delicate bite size cakes, sandwiches,┬átea and coffee at the Sandy Creek bridge. 24 kms altogether along the edge of the lake, valley and farm lands. Go to the the High Country Rail Trail web page for details.
